Use the ripest cantaloupe you can find — it should smell fragrant and sweet at the stem end, since that's where nearly all of this drink's flavor comes from.
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cantaloupe: Peel and remove the seeds from 300 g (½ cantaloupe) ripe cantaloupe. Chop into rough chunks. The riper the cantaloupe, the sweeter and more flavorful the cooler will be.
- Blend: Add the chopped cantaloupe and 480 ml (2 cups) ice cubes to a high-speed blender. If the blender struggles, add up to 120 ml (½ cup) water. Blend on high until completely smooth with no ice chunks remaining.
- Serve: Pour immediately into 2 glasses and serve straight away.
Storage: Best consumed immediately as the cooler melts and separates quickly. Pour any leftovers into a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 1 day. Re-blend briefly before serving. Do not refrigerate as it will melt and lose its texture.
Swaps: Cantaloupe can be swapped for honeydew melon, watermelon, or mango for a different flavor. Ice can be replaced with frozen cantaloupe chunks for a thicker, more intense result. Water can be swapped for coconut water for a subtle tropical flavour.
Every ingredient here earns its place, but a few really shape the dish. The ice cubes chills the drink and keeps the texture light.
