Instructions:

  1. Position for Wrapping
Place the sandwich in the center of a square sheet of parchment or wax paper. The sheet needs to be large enough to completely cover the sandwich with enough paper left over to fold and tuck underneath.
  2. Fold and Wrap
Pull the paper up and over the top of the sandwich and fold it down snugly against the sandwich, pressing it close so there is no loose paper or air gap.
  3. Secure the Wrap
Take one side of the paper and fold it in toward the center as if wrapping a present, creasing the edge firmly. Repeat on the other side. Tuck both folded edges firmly under the sandwich.

Common Mistakes:

  • Using a sheet of paper that is too small — the paper needs to be large enough to fully wrap and tuck under the sandwich or it will unravel.
  • Not pressing the sandwich down before wrapping — a loose sandwich shifts inside the wrap and makes it harder to fold neatly.
  • Overfilling the sandwich — too many fillings make it impossible to wrap tightly and the paper will tear or open.
  • Folding the sides before the top — always fold the top down first then fold the sides in for a clean and secure wrap.

Notes:

  • Parchment paper holds its shape better than wax paper and is the preferred choice for packed lunches and picnics.
  • If wrapping for travel, fold tightly and secure with tape or a rubber band to keep it closed.
  • This wrapping technique works for any sandwich regardless of fillings.
