Sweeten the tea while it's still warm, right after steeping — sugar and maple syrup dissolve into hot tea instantly but stay grainy in a glass over ice.

    Instructions:

    1. Boil water — Bring 4 cups of filtered water to a full boil.
    2. Steep — Remove from heat. Add tea bags and steep for 3–5 minutes. Steeping too long makes it bitter — set a timer!
    3. Remove bags — Gently squeeze each bag once before removing. Do not over-squeeze or it becomes bitter.
    4. Sweeten while warm — Stir in maple syrup while the tea is still hot so it dissolves completely.
    5. Cool & chill — Let cool to room temperature, then pour into a pitcher and refrigerate for 1–2 hours.
    6. Serve — Pour over plenty of ice. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint.

    Cold Brew Method (No Bitterness)

    1. Add 4 tea bags to 4 cups of cold water in a pitcher.
    2. Refrigerate for 8–12 hours or overnight.
    3. Remove bags, sweeten, and serve over ice.
Common Mistakes, Notes, Storage, Swaps & Tips

Tips: Cold brew iced tea is smoother and less bitter than hot-brewed — worth the extra wait. Always sweeten while the tea is warm — cold tea won't dissolve sweetener evenly. Fill glasses to the brim with ice — it dilutes as it melts and balances the flavor perfectly.

Flavor Variations: Peach iced tea: add 2 tbsp peach nectar per glass. Raspberry iced tea: muddle a few fresh raspberries in the glass first. Mint iced tea: steep 4 mint sprigs with the tea bags. Green iced tea: swap black tea for green tea, steeping only 2 minutes to avoid bitterness.

Storage: Store in a sealed pitcher in the fridge for up to 5 days. Add fresh garnishes when serving.

    Why these Ingredients

This recipe leans on a handful of key ingredients to get its flavor and texture right. The –3 tbsp maple syrup or agave brings natural sweetness with a hint of caramel depth. The lemon adds acidity that brightens and balances the dish. The fresh mint for garnish adds a cool, refreshing herbal note. The lots of ice chills the drink and keeps the texture light.
